[FDS32] Torossi, Stefano - Omicidio per vocazione / E’ stato bello amarti CD

Fin de Siècle Media are proud to present two wonderful scores by another Italian maestro - Stefano Torossi - whose music sadly has been somewhat neglected during the years. Originally released on LP by C.A.M. in 1968, OMICIDIO PER VOCAZIONE and E’ STATO BELLO AMARTI show Torossi’s ability to create suitable moods for both the giallo as well as romantic drama.
Carefully restored from the original LP master and presented in a 4-page digifile with original artwork and film stills, we hope that these highly sought after scores finally get the attention they so rightfully deserve. Limited edition 500 copies.

[FDS30] Morricone, Ennio - Teorema/La stagione dei sensi/Vergogna schifosi CD

Soundtracks / Comments Off

It is splendidly appropriate that these three seminal and transgressive works by the major composer of film music of the 20th Century should be brought together on one silver disc. Ennio Morricone has been to film music what Pablo Picasso was to painting – an endlessly voracious intellectual organism imbibing the entirety of the extant arts environment and then, after reformulating and re-imagining everything absorbed, disgorging shockingly unexpected designs back into the cultural landscape. All three of these soundtracks represent this dynamic phenomenon of individualized creativity at its most overt and thrilling. Completely remastered in simulated stereo and presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork, film stills and liner notes by John Bender.

[FDS29] Gaslini, Giorgio - Un omicidio perfetto a termine di legge CD

Fin de Siècle Media proudly present the CD premiere of another complete giallo soundtrack by the much underrated Giorgio Gaslini. As with his next giallo assignment, RIVELAZIONI DI UN MANIACO SESSUALE AL CAPO DELLA SQUADRA MOBILE (also on CD from Fin de Siècle Media), he here delivers a masterful exercise in both fear and fashion - spilled blood and guts in the sleek environs of the sophisticated elite. The themes, which vacillate between eroticism and delicate, almost childlike femininity, function as perfumed reflections of the exaggerated visual allure of the giallo whilst simultaneously being esthetic buffers against the usually horrific violence. The great majority of the compositions on this disc similarly show Gaslini to be perfectly suited to the genre. These designs are arguably the finest abstractions produced in support of the Italian cinematic thriller. The music has a precision and clarity not commonly found, with the voice of individual instruments remaining distinct and demanding of attention, and this compels a rather sharp visualization of the cool mathematics and intellectualism that give structure to each ominous formation. Carefully restored from the stereo master tapes by Claudio Fuiano and presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork, film stills and liner notes by John Bender.

[FDS28] Maderna, Bruno - La morte ha fatto l’uovo CD

Soundtracks / Comments Off

Previously released on LP by Cinevox in 1968, we are proud to announce the CD premiere release of this challenging avant-garde soundtrack by Bruno Maderna who only scored a handful of films in the 50s and 60s. However, this one has the ability to haunt you forever. Quirky stuff indeed, a perfect companion to the equally weird film by Giulio Questi – Maderna’s contribution to the film cannot be overestimated. Presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork, film still and liner notes by John Bender, the disc itself offers the original LP in full stereo as well as 10 previously unheard bonus tracks in mono - all in all 54 minutes of very uneasy listening carefully restored by Claudio Fuiano. Overall the music on this disc can be eerily, and vividly, epitomized by a line of dialog from the film:  “Take them by surprise with an approach that’s absolutely new – that’s newer than tomorrow – preposterously new!”

“Bruno Maderna’s score perfectly captures the films paranoia atmosphere with its dissonant tones and bizarre arrangements.” (Michael Den Boer, 10,000 Bullets)

“… a crazed musical score from Bruno Maderna - this composer’s mix of woozy strings and discordant jazz guitar is guaranteed to make you edgy and nervous …” (Don Guarisco, DVD Maniacs)

“… Bruno Maderna’s bizarre score, which somehow manages to be incredibly annoying and completely appropriate at the same time …” (Michael Mackenzie, DVD Times)

“The avant-garde Bruno Maderna score is violent and nerve-wracking.” (Chris Fujiwara/A. S. Hamrah, Hermenaut)

“Bruno Maderna’s score is akin to the sound of chalk screeching across a blackboard …” (Robert Monell, I’m In a Jess Franco State of Mind)

[FDS27] Donaggio, Pino - Corruzione al Palazzo di Giustizia CD

Fin de Siècle Media proudly present the CD premiere of Pino Donaggio’s score for CORRUZIONE AL PALAZZO DI GIUSTIZIA (CORRUPTION IN THE HALLS OF JUSTICE, SMILING MANIACS), an intense tale of corruption made in 1974 starring Franco Nero and directed by Marcello Aliprandi. Donaggio’s score is in places a fairly low key work that relies on taught and suspense-filled cues which match the mood and atmosphere of the motion picture perfectly. But there is also a melodic, poignant and delicate side to the score which manifests itself during the soundtrack in varying guises and instrumentations. Donaggio, perhaps best known for DON’T LOOK NOW and CARRIE, has composed an admirable score that not only suits the motion picture for which it was written, but also manages to remain an entertaining work away from the images for which it was intended - a true work of originality and merit. Originally released on vinyl by Carosello Records in 1975, it’s an extremely rare album which finally will be available again - carefully restored from the LP master and presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork, film stills and liner notes by John Mansell. 16 tracks.

[FDS26] Gaslini, Giorgio - Rivelazioi di un maniaco sessuale al capo della squadra mobile CD

Soundtracks / Comments Off

Giorgio Gaslini is a highly trained and world renowned musician, a maestro of not only composition but also of jazz and contemporary classical music. He is most well-known to Euro-genre hounds for his co-scoring of Dario Argento’s monumental giallo PROFONDO ROSSO (DEEP RED), together with the  progressive rock giants Goblin. The score for RIVELAZIONI DI UN MANIACO SESSUALE AL CAPO DELLA SQUADRA MOBILE (REVELATIONS OF A SEX MANIAC, PENETRATION)  is a known favorite among the cadre of international afficionados of Italian cult-cinema, and for good reason; this is a very skillful and satisfying work – which also features splendid vocal performances by the one and only Edda Dell’Orso. Supporting the effect of the killer’s anthem is a series of dissonant suspense cues and each of these contribute to the underlying psychological stress inherent to the narrative. Counterbalancing the score’s darker portions are a series of lighter excursions into the realms of lounge and easy instrumentals - truly inspired music for a maniac! Culled from the vaults of Cinevox and carefully restored by Claudio Fuiano, this CD premiere release does not only present the LP tracks in full stereo – as much as 17 unreleased tracks have been saved from obscurity. Presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork and extensive liner notes by John Bender, Fin de Siècle Media are proud to give another underrated composer the attention he most certainly deserves.

[FDS25] Romitelli, Sante Maria - Questa volta ti faccio ricco! CD

Finally, the delightful soundtrack for Questa volta ti faccio ricco! (This Time I’ll Make You Rich) by Sante Maria Romitelli makes its CD debut - the previously released LP by Ariete is very rare and sought after by soundtrack collectors around the world. Digitally remastered and in full stereo, this is an enthusiastic and animated effort by Romitelli which gives clear evidence of his creative genius. The score is, as they say, “all over the map”, but Romitelli pulls it off with great skill - for instance the jazz/blues infused title track, a lush romantic piece for strings and woodwind featuring Edda Dell’Orso (You and I), a frolicsome ethnic march (Tema di Joe), a brazenly swinging jazz romp (Gimme Time)  as well as a bit of pseudo pop-classicism not unlike the work of maestro Ennio Morricone (Waltz For Two). Presented in a 6-page digipak with original artwork, film stills and extensive liner notes by John Bender, the CD is a worthy example of this underrated composer’s noble diligence and full command of the medium.
